That Catholic Show

Long overdue plug for Greg and Jennifer Willits from Rosary Army. They have been producing a video podcast called That Catholic Show for some time now. Each episode is a short, concise lesson on a single aspect of our Catholic faith. A great resource for RCIA groups, catechumens, candidates, and anyone else who just wants to know a little more about Catholicism.

Repentance and Forgiveness

Cal Thomas offers insight on repentance and forgiveness this morning in the Washington Post's On Faith column.

His statements on repentance are sort of in-your-face, but accurate in my opinion. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) states, "Interior repentance is a radical reorientation of our whole life, a
return, a conversion to God with all our heart, an end of sin, a
turning away from evil, with repugnance toward the evil actions we have
committed." This would be why the Sacrament of Reconciliation is also called the Sacrament of Conversion; conversion of the heart to sin no more.

As much as I agree with Mr .Thomas' piece, he neglected, perhaps on purpose the fact that we are commanded by Jesus to forgive, if we seek forgiveness ourselves.

Real Presence

Today's Gospel Reading recalls the disciples coming to recognize Jesus after His Resurrection in the "breaking of bread." The concept of Real Presence in the Eucharist came to mind for me as I read. I know the term transubstantiation is the heady term used to explain this concept and it can be difficult for some to grasp. But for me, the stories of the Last Supper and of the disciples on their way to Emmaus confirm for me that the Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Discovery Channel and The Lost Tomb of Jesus

The Catholic Standard details the airing of the documentary and disputes the claims it puts forth as fact. Sounds like the DaVinci Code revisited.

Catholic Priest Wins Discrimination Complaint

Interesting read in the Washington Post this morning. It appears our own federal government has discriminated against someone for being Catholic. (more)
